The Anna Maria College women's basketball team will host St. Joseph College (Conn.) in the annual 'Play 4Kay' game on Tuesday, February 7th at The Fuller Activities Center starting at 5:30 pm.

The Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Basketball teams are coming together in February to fundraise and spread awareness for breast cancer in the conference wide Play 4Kay. This will be the fifth year that the GNAC with its fourteen school membership participates in this great initiative. The GNAC's Play 4Kay is run in conjunction with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's Play 4Kay which has been rebranded from the Pink Zone this year.

The women's basketball team will sport pink paraphernalia and fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness.

Anna Maria College announces that the Wood Pellet Storage Silo that is part of its new thermal heating system is being installed on January 23 and 24, 2012 on its Paxton campus. Continuing in its commitment to protect the environment and vying to become the first college in Massachusetts to provide heat for its students exclusively with wood pellets, AMC has partnered with International WoodFuels to install and operate a state-of-the-art wood pellet central heating system on campus. The introduction of WoodFuels’ new Green Energy System, which is one of the first metered pellet boilers in the United States, will reduce the school’s carbon emissions by more than 900 tons annually, as well as displace nearly 85,000 gallons of #2 heating fuel that the college burns each year. These reductions will help AMC fulfill its obligation to the American College & University President’s Climate Commitment, which the College signed onto in 2007.

Anna Maria students who participate in the College’s HABACATS club are spending the last week of their winter break providing needed services to the greater Worcester community. The HABACATS club works with Habitat for Humanity and its members have travelled locally, regionally and nationally to support individuals in need. This week they are providing services at a variety of locations including the Visitation House, Worcester, MA, Emmaus, Inc., Haverhill, MA, and The Little Store, Worcester, MA.

Anna Maria College announces that Stanley C. Vieira has accepted the position of Director of Athletics and will join the AMC community on January 18, 2012. In this role, Mr. Vieira will provide leadership, daily oversight, and management of the College’s growing athletic programs that continue to enhance AMC’s liberal arts education by promoting physical fitness, sportsmanship, and socialization.

Mr. Vieira is a graduate of UMass-Boston and received his Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies specializing in Sports and Society from Lesley University, Cambridge, MA. Prior to joining AMC, he served as the Athletic Director and Assistant Coach for Women’s Softball, Women’s Basketball and Women’s Soccer at Lesley University. In this position he was responsible for all aspects of the University’s NCAA Division III athletic program, which was comprised of 12 varsity teams and clubs, as well as intramural and fitness activities for 1500 undergraduate students. Mr. Vieira also helped to implement a ten-year strategic plan to grow the athletic programs at the institution.

Currently, AMC offers 17 NCAA Division III sports teams for both men and women.
